Alternative Fuels & Raw Materials 2018 Conference & Exhibition - A future without waste?
Regional and international top executives and industry experts from 16 countries attended the Alternative Fuels & Raw Materials 2018 event held on February 22nd and 23rd, in Cancun, Mexico at JW Marriott Resort & Spa Hotel.
2018 Alternative Fuels & Raw Materials conference & exhibition provided a unique opportunity by exchanging views on the latest fuels trends & developments, new technologies, investments and insights in the cement industry. The event was packed with multiple networking sessions among international guests from United States, France, Germany, India, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Sweden, Japan, China, Honduras, El Salvador, Austria, Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala.
This new edition of meeting series focused towards creating a forum to strike new partnerships and explore the possibilities of new deals by sharing global opportunities, practices, technologies and perspectives following a dual-track program. Slag & AshTrade Americas, the Raw Materials track (slag, fly ash, syngyp, pozzolana, millscale) was held in conjunction with Alternative Fuels event focused on waste to energy, RDF, TDF, municipal waste, agricultural residues, paper, pulp waste.

The 2018 edition of AFARM reviewed the essential where experts exchanged their viewpoints through the panel discussion and shared the major industry highlights such as regional challenges, innovation and evolution of Alternative Fuels. With pollution growing and natural resources dwindling the 2018 Alternative Fuels & Raw Materials topics highlighted that now is the time to expedite the development of alternative fuels.
Presentations included a thorough local and international market outlook, covering key topics, of the alternative fuels in the cement sector, integrated in a complex program covering alternative fuels technical subjects, business & strategy, and logistics.
Mr. Luis Garcia Silvia, Federal Delegate of Mexico Government, Secretary of Economy offered a welcoming key note speech followed by business, finance and development strategies analyzed by Luis Alberto Salomon, Energy & Water Specialist of IFC “Global experiences and finance for alternative fuels”, Nancy Fabiola Chacon, Renewable Energy & Engineering Process Consultant presented “Municipal solid waste, feasibility study, challenges and opportunities”.
From a technical perspective, focusing on waste management latest technology, cost and productivity optimization, as well as product quality and efficiency Hector Montellano, Sales & Business Development, Untha Shredding Technology shared the “Revalorization of Solid Waste”, Raul Moreno, Director Latin America, Spain & Portugal of Firefly AB presented “New technologies for preventing fires in RDF facilities”. Christophe Garcia, Business Manager of Precimeca discussed about “Choosing the right tool to shred tyres”.
Fernando Lopez, CEO & Founder of GTA Ambiental and Sales Associate of Bianna Recycling shared the road “From waste to energy: RDF handling in cement plants” and “The separation facility that México requires to manage MSW and its derivate products”. Tim Hamer, Area Sales Manager and Key Account Manager for Cement Applications, Vecoplan AG presented “Alternative fuel production & handling with Vecoplan“. Héctor Garciacésar Rodríguez, Director of Geocycle Mexico presented the topic about “Coprocessing: helping you to achieve zero waste to landfill”, Marco Egger, Sales Manager of Lindner Recyclingtech discussed about RDF preparation.
Tais Mazza, Head of Waste Conditioning of Loesche presented “Waste-to-Profit: An integrated approach to maximize alternative fuel utilization in cement plants” and Pedro Ladeira, Engineering VP of FCT Combustion presented how to “Implement long term 100% thermal substitution with alternative fuels”.
Eduardo Granados, Sales Manager of Cemengal presented “Modular grinding: Here to stay” and Harald wan Weren, Segment Manager of Malvern PANalytical shared “How materials analysis can maximize the utilization of alternative fuels and raw materials”.
The economic and population growth around the world, as well as a greater purchasing power of consumers generate an increasing amount of waste. To dispose of it in a safe and responsible way is today one of the great challenges worldwide. With ever growing energy demand, many countries around the world are looking to use alternative fuels to reduce dependence on fossil fuel.
The event enjoyed numerous off-site discussions among the participants during the coffee breaks, lunch and cocktail, in a more relaxed setting, with assistance offered by the organizers for all delegates interested in getting in contact with specific company representatives and arranging post-event meetings.
