Success stories - replacing traditional natural aggregates

Research made by Votorantim Cimentos shows that bottom ash or steel slag can be used in the production of concrete to replace natural aggregates. Considering the high cost of storage and shipping of these by-products to landfill, these solutions are viable from an environmental and economic point of view.

Mr. Luiz De Brito Prado Vieira, Research and Development Director of Votorantim Cimentos, will be presenting the "Use of bottom ash and steel slag as aggregates in concrete”. The tests that were carried out in the laboratory and in the field and proved the technical feasibility in the production of blocks and pavers, ready-mixed concrete and concrete pavements.

Luiz de Brito Prado Vieira is Research and Development Director of Votorantim Cimentos graduated from the Mackenzie University Engineering School in 1997. He has a graduate degree in surveys and valuations FAAP, MBA in project management by FIA. Operating in more than 20 years in the construction business he has been operating since 2000 in Engemix concrete business of Votorantim Cimentos and already has in its curriculum responsibility for more than 50 million cubic meters of concrete, and the winner of the social leader Prize 2010 and Argus Award Menna Barreto 2011 granted by Ibracon.
