Carbon dioxide bio fixation by microalgae: An alternative to Carbon Capture Storage

Mr. Seiiti Suzuki, Corporate R&D Manager at InterCement, will be presenting “Carbon dioxide bio fixation by microalgae: An alternative to Carbon Capture Storage”, at the Cement Business & Industry Brazil & LatAm 2019 Conference and exhibition to be held on April 11-12 in Sao Paulo, Brazil at Sheraton WTC Hotel.

Cement production is one of the biggest carbon dioxide emission source, due to the frequent use of concrete in the industry. There is an effort to reduce emissions by the industry like fossil fuel replacement by renewable, energy efficiency projects and the use of supplementary cementitious material. However, it seems that it is not enough to keep the 2ºC scenario.

Carbon capture and storage emerged can be seen as a solution, however all the studies point out an important cost to cap CO2. Therefore, this presentation will show another technological route to mitigate CO2 emissions.

Mr. Seiiti Suzuki graduated from Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo in 1988, has an MSc degree related to pozzolanic cement and specialization in Environmental Management. He has more than 25 years of experience in cement production and is responsible for R&D at InterCement since 2012. In addition, has experience related to sectoral discussion as a member for Climate Change task force at Brazillian and Latin America cement producers and InterCement´s representative at Global Cement and Concrete Association working groups.
